New Choices at Wakeman Hall provides substance abuse treatment for 12 to
16-year-old teenagers who are involved with the Connecticut Juvenile Courts. The
program is coed. Length of stay is individualized from 28-49 days. Treatment
services are provided within a trauma sensitive therapeutic milieu and are under
the direction of a physician. Services include therapy groups, rehabilitation
groups, therapeutic enrichment, individual therapy, family therapy, and multiple
family therapy. Psychiatric evaluation and medication management are provided
when necessary. The program also provides exposure to the 12-step recovery
principles. A state accredited school is on grounds so youth can continue their
academic education while in treatment. Case management services are provided
from the point of admission in order to identify follow-up and aftercare in the
community. All guardians are expected to create, with us, crisis plans to ensure
safety at all times.
